Why does the copy button add strange formatting?

Some EMR and client management systems prefer this type of formatting, which is called "markdown format". If you will be pasting data into other systems such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs, we recommend that you select the text directly on the screen and copy it that way. Alternatively, there are services and plugins for many tools such as Google Docs and Microsoft Office that will automatically remove the strange formatting.

If you are seeing "boxes" around your text when you copy and paste, in many programs such as Microsoft Word, you will have the ability to paste the text as "Merge Formatting" which will remove the boxes or undesired formatting (these options can be found in the top ribbon or in your right-click options). This can also be set as the default copy+paste within your Microsoft settings.

In a future release, we will have the option to set your preferred formatting for copy and paste. This is anticipated early 2025.
