Prompt and Chat Recovery
BastionGPT is designed to keep your prompts and chat history in a secure web browser area until this is manually erased. However, there are some things that can cause prompts and chat history to disappear:
- Switching web browsers: Since your chat and prompts are kept within the secure area of your web browser, switching web browsers (such as changing from Safari to Chrome, or Firefox to Edge) the new web browser will not have access to the history in your other browser for security reasons. If this is the case, you can go to your old web browser to find your prompts and chat history. You can save a copy of your prompts by going to the “options” menu and then saving a backup of your prompts to your preferred location. You can then use your new web browser to import that saved file to access your saved prompts using the new web browser. If you are a Professional Plus subscriber, you simply need to go into the settings menu and click "Restore Prompts".
- Logging into web browsers with different profiles: Most web browsers allow you to log in with different user accounts, which provides different users access to their unique saved settings, preferences and data. Signing into a new user account profile can cause your old chats and prompts to disappear until you sign back into the original account. To view your old history, simply sign back into your old profile. If you are a Professional Plus subscriber, you simply need to go into the settings menu and click "Restore Prompts".
- Using a private browsing mode (such as InPrivate or Incognito mode): These modes will wipe all saved information when your browser is closed as a security feature. This includes BastionGPT chat and prompts. You would need to use a browser in the normal mode to prevent this from happening. If that isn’t an option, you could back up a copy of your prompts via the “settings” menu every time you add or modify a new prompt. In this instance, there is no way to recover the wiped information due to the web browser's security settings.
- Company policy wiping all browser data periodically: Some companies periodically wipe all browser data as a security measure, which includes BastionGPT chat and prompt history. If this is happening, your company's IT folks can disable it. Alternatively, the Enterprise version of BastionGPT will store prompts in your company’s secure cloud. In this instance, there is no way to recover the wiped information due to the security settings of the web browser.
- Saving the website as an “app” on the home screen: Some users will save the BastionGPT website as a shortcut on the home screen. This often stores the data in a different location, and as such, the data you see when accessing via the app shortcut would be different than what you would see when accessing BastionGPT via a web browser. If you recently switched to using a home screen shortcut and wish to view your old chat and history, you can switch back to accessing BastionGPT via a web browser directly. If you wish to move the data between the two, there is a backup option in the settings menu.
A customer may request a copy of their secure cloud vault data by emailing support@bastiongpt.com. A customer may also manually back up their prompts to a location of their choice via the Settings menu. If you are a Professional Plus subscriber, you simply need to go into the settings menu and click "Restore Prompts".
