Does BastionGPT integrate with my EHR?

Not directly today: you copy or download BastionGPT output into any EHR, or build a direct connection with our API. Here is why, and what is ahead.

Not directly today, and that is a deliberate choice while the EHR AI market settles. BastionGPT runs in your web browser alongside your EHR, and you move finished notes and reports into your chart with the copy or download buttons. If your organization wants a true EHR integration now, you can build one with the BastionGPT API, and we expect to offer more direct integrations as the industry stabilizes.

How do I get BastionGPT output into my EHR today?

Every BastionGPT response and every AI Scribe note includes copy and download buttons. Draft your documentation, review it, then paste it into your template in Epic, Valant, or any other EHR or practice management system. Because the output is standard text and documents, this works with every system on the market, including EHRs built on field-by-field tabular templates that trip up point-to-point AI connectors.

BastionGPT works entirely in the browser on desktop and mobile, with nothing to install, so most clinicians simply keep it open in a tab next to their EHR. The division of labor is intentional: BastionGPT is where the drafting, summarizing, and analysis happen, and your EHR remains your system of record. You review every output before it enters the chart, so you stay in control of the record.

Why doesn't BastionGPT plug directly into my EHR yet?

The honest answer: right now, direct EHR integrations tend to break more than they help. Nearly every EHR and practice management vendor is adding its own AI features, and their systems are changing quickly as they do. We have watched practices invest months of time and real money in point-to-point integrations, only to see them fail week after week as the software on either end changed underneath them. Building integrations is well within our team's skill set; shipping one that fails on the week you need it is not something we are willing to do.

As the industry settles, we expect direct EHR integration to arrive in one of two ways: EHR vendors partnering with us to build BastionGPT into their products, or connectors we develop ourselves once the connection points are stable enough to depend on. We are deliberately not promising dates. Our goal is to save you as many clicks as possible, and when the market is ready for that to happen reliably, we will be there.

Can I build my own EHR integration with the API?

Yes. If your organization has development resources, or you are a software vendor building for healthcare, the BastionGPT API is the supported way to connect BastionGPT to your systems today. The format is intentionally about 99% the same as the OpenAI API, so the work will feel familiar to most developers, and the same API powers the BastionGPT web app, including audio transcription and native document processing (PDF, Word, and images). Registering for the API carries the same HIPAA agreements as the rest of our services. Access starts with a short use-case call, and your keys typically arrive within about one business day. Is there an API? I want to use BastionGPT in my app has the full details.

Does BastionGPT already power AI inside other healthcare software?

Yes. Some healthcare software companies license BastionGPT technology to run the AI features inside their own products, so you may already be benefiting from it without knowing. Those embedded products are built on the same API described above, which is part of why we are confident recommending it to vendors building today. If you are weighing scribe options across vendors, you can compare AI medical scribes side by side.

Should I wait for my EHR's built-in AI instead?

Try it and compare before you commit. If your EHR offers AI features with a free trial, test them on your real workflows and put the output side by side with BastionGPT's. We do suggest caution about signing a year-long contract for an AI add-on you have not yet seen work on your own documentation.

The biggest difference you are likely to notice is quality. BastionGPT routes every request to current frontier AI models tuned for clinical work; a side-by-side comparison will show you how your EHR's built-in AI stacks up on your own documentation. What AI models power BastionGPT? explains how that routing works. Many practices that adopted an EHR AI feature have told us their providers kept coming back to BastionGPT because the drafts need so little editing that the copy step is a small price to pay.

However you connect the pieces, we are happy to help you think it through. Start a free trial to run the comparison in your own practice, or email [email protected] and we will talk through the right setup with you.
